Dog bites and other animal bites can be traumatic experiences, resulting in serious physical and emotional injuries, disfiguring wounds and scars, infections, disabilities and even loss of life. In Georgia, animal owners have a duty to avoid careless management of their animals and not to allow their animals to roam free. The owner can be liable for injuries and losses from attacks by “vicious or dangerous” animals if the owner failed in their duty to properly manage and restrain the animal.

- Seek medical attention. An animal bite can be a serious injury and result in a dangerous infection. Get medical attention as soon as possible
- Get the name, address, and phone number of the animal’s owner.
- Get the animal’s license information (county and number).
- Get the name, address, and phone number of anyone who witnessed the attack
- Get pictures of your injuries and (if possible) the animal.
- Check with animal control for previous reports.
